Background:

Marina will be a Senior beginning in January 2009. (The Guatemalan school year runs from January to October.) She is the oldest child in a very large family who all live together in a very small house with a dirt floor. She wants to be a doctor so she can pay for her younger brothers and sisters to go to school and help her parents have a better life. She studies very hard and is determined to succeed. Her hard work has made her one of the top students in her grade at Legacy School.
