Yuda Band Project

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

--Nelson Mandela

Yuda Foundation's sponsorship program is a bridge between those who have, and those who have not, with the specific focus of guiding those in need to a better life, not just giving them a handout. This is accomplished through the following unique and very powerful methods.

Student Selection
Student Selection

We only select students who will follow through to the end and take advantage of the opportunity given them. In the city of San Martin Jilotepeque (pop. 80,000), there are no public high schools, and only one jr. high. Students in the sponsor program are scouted out as the top students in public elementary schools. These are students who have proven their committment to academic acheivement, yet without financial assistence could not continue their education.

Relationships
Sponsor/Student Relationships Through the wonders of modern technology, sponsored students at Legacy School communicate with their sponsors through email. Humanitarian Trips are also available through Yuda Foundation through which many sponsors meet the students they are sponsoring, and their familes, in person. Sponsors often send care packages and pictures. This mutually beneficial relationship motivates students to work hard, and gives sponsors a real sense of making a difference!
High School Level Careers
High School Level Careers Legacy School has developed a career based curriculum, meaning that beginning in high school, students select 1 of 4 careers to specialize in. This gives them a marketable trade upon graduation, making it possible for them to begin earning an income immediately if they are unable to go to college. The four career choices are: accounting, secretarial, computers, and technical drawing, or drafting.
Community Service
Community Service Community Service/Leadership Training
Students in the sponsor program participate in service projects which teach them civic responsibility and leadership, much needed skills in their culture. With these skills, in addition to the education they receive, we feel they will be impactful citizens in their community. It's also a way for them to "give back" for the assitence they have received. Many of the service projects are done alongside their US sponsors, which is a very unifying experience.
